Close encounters of the first kind are the most commonly reported events on the Hynek scale. A close encounter of the second kind is one in which a UFO has been spotted, but there is associated phenomena that accompanies it.

Steven Spielberg’s Close Encounters of the Third Kind was a game changing sci-fi flick when it came out in It was an attempt to create a more realistic interaction between humans and aliens than the usual Hollywood fare. There was no invasion from outer space for instance. Instead it was about aliens attempting to communicate with Earth.
